On February 21, 2025, the 80th birthday of the outstanding Odesan artist Hennady Vasyliovych Harmider will be celebrated. A graduate of the Grekov Odesa Art School and the National Academy of Fine Arts and Architecture, and later a teacher at his native "Grekovka", Hennady Harmider is a recognized master of etching and oil painting, an outstanding illustrator who designed almost 200 books over a decade of work.
In addition, he is one of the most famous art ambassadors of his hometown. His series of etchings have the same unchanging significance as Carl Bossoli's unique engravings with views of Odesa in the first half of the 19th century. Reviving the images of his native city with documentary precision and high artistry, H. V. Harmider recreated the times of the "Golden Age" of our Southern Palmyra. The uniqueness of Harmider's work is that he depicted the history of Odesa for all the years of its existence — the 19th, 20th and early 21st centuries.
Harmider's Odesa is protected from the erosion of time and gloomy everyday life. This city conquers, inspires, charges with a flow of energy and gives birth to an emotional response. Therefore, the recognizable Odessa characters and heroes hovering in the sky above the city look quite natural in his etchings. Pure magic! The magic of talent.
The artist's works are in 26 museums in Ukraine and 12 abroad, including Kyiv, Odesa, Oulu (Finland), Baltimore (USA), Gyor (Hungary), the National Library of France and the Sorbonne Library (France), the Warsaw Public Library, the library of the Jagiellonian University in Krakow ( Poland), the International Museum of Satire and Humor in Gabrovo (Bulgaria), as well as in the private collections of Ukraine (M.Knobel), France (Mm. Chirac, Mm. Pompidou), USA (Vorontsov-Dashkov), Liechtenstein (Baron Falz -Fein) and others.
